The Physicians for a National Health Program have a great research page on the broken healthcare system we have and how a single-payer system would work.
A study published in September showed that 45,000 deaths in this country every year are attributable to a lack of healthcare. Uninsured, working-age people in this country have a 40% higher risk of dying that those with health insurance. The study was published in the American Journal of Public Health.
